Book Ratings?

While reviewing a book I have recently read tonight, this question popped into my head. Generally, I do not rate books below a 3/5, and I rarely rate a book a 3/5. So that being said, how important is the rating number to authors? I generally do not dislike books, if a book for me is slow in spots but totally engulfs me in the end, I usually rate it a 4 or 5, depending how much the story gets to me, but is this helpful to authors or not? I try to state if the book was harder for me to get into and information like that, but if you book is rate 4/5 or 5/5 or even 3/5, how does that affect you as an author? Is the rating more important, or the actual review? I would love to get authors opinions, please don't be shy!!!

Here.

So I've been trying to think about what i could post for the current book I just finished "Here (On The Otherside)"  by Denise Grover Swank.  I didn't want to do a review or give away any spoilers. So I've been like "What can I post about this awesome book?" I think I have finally come up with a good idea though. What do you guys think of a discussion group or something? I was sorta even thinking about a virtual book club and we pick one of the interesting looking books on Amazon (seeing as I use my Kindle Fire for all my reading) or something along those lines? Let me know what you guys think!

I know I said this before, but I am also thinking about doing something with FanFiction. That's really how  how I started a while ago, but then gave up on it until Ashley got me reading books again, yet I still find myself going back to it sometimes and enjoy reading what people write just for fun about some of their favorite movies, music artist, ect. I'm currently reading one about Justin Bieber; and if you don't know, I am a HUGE BELIEBER! Hehe. Well for more reasons than one. I mean he is cute to look at. ;)

If you would like to read my review on "Here" please check out my good reads page here. I will be posting most of my reviews over there, so feel free to add me! I love see what other people are currently reading, or have read in the past; or even read. Its how I get some of my books on my Kindle library.

As always, Thanks for checking out the page! Told you I'd try to be better at posting. AS you can see, I'm trying! :)

Lauren.

My Newest Book, Dante’s Girl: Coming Soon!

"So, I’ve been hard at work for months now on my newest book, Dante’s Girl.  I know.  I’ve gotten so many emails asking for the third book in the Moonstone Saga.  BUT, this isn’t it.  I had an itch to write a romantic YA contemporary.  And I think I kind of nailed it.  But I might be partial. So I’ll have to wait and let you guys tell me if I nailed it.

Reece Ellis is a witty, funny seventeen-year old farm girl from Kansas.  (Because that’s where I’m from. My little tribute to my homeland….)  and Dante Giliberti is the beautiful son of a Prime Minister. They don’t exactly match.  But their hearts don’t know that.   Check out the awesome and amazing cover:"

http://courtneycolewrites.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/dantes-girl-front1.jpg
I have spent every summer since I was ten years old with my father in London.  Every summer, since I was ten years old, has been uneventful and boring.
Until this year.
And this year, after a freak volcanic eruption strands me far from home, I have learned these things:
1.  I can make do with one outfit for three days before I buy new clothes.
2.  If I hear the phrase, “You’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto,” even one more time, I might become a homicidal maniac.
3.  I am horribly and embarrassingly allergic to jellyfish.
4. I am in love with Dante Giliberti, who just happens to be the beautiful, sophisticated son of the Prime Minister of a Mediterranean paradise.
5.  See number four above.  Because it brings with it a whole slew  of problems and I’ve learned something from every one of them.
Let’s start with the fact that Dante’s world is five light-years away from mine.  He goes to black-tie functions and knows the Prime Minister of England on a first name basis.  I was born and raised on a farm in Kansas and wear cut-off jeans paired with cowboy boots.  See the difference?
But hearts don’t care about differences.  Hearts want what they want.  And mine just wants to be Dante’s girl.
My heart just might be crazy.

Beau & Ashton's *Bonus* ending

Who was that guy? And how the hell had he managed to get here? Reaching up, I tugged at my stiff white linen collar and took a deep breath. The more I thought about what all could go wrong, the harder it became to breathe.
“You’re gonna have to get it together man. She isn’t going to bolt. The girl loves you, crazy insane loves you. What about that don’t you get?” Sawyer’s amused tone matched the smirk on his face.

Safe Haven by Shanna Germain (Review by Lauren)

Alright, so as I had posted last night, I was read Safe Haven by Shanna Germain and it was a a good, quick and romantic read. I found it on Amazon one day looking to update some of the read for my Kindle and phone. It was good addition and probably will read it again sometime.

The end was quick and to the point, but kind of left it open for another book to follow it. It was sweet, very romantic and well written. I felt at sometimes though the author did jump too quick through some parts, but maybe that't just me. I knew what happened in the parts she skipped, because Shanna gave enough detail, but I always like a little bit more. ;)

It does seem to be a little bit different that what the title describes, well okay maybe not. Its the setting of the story that threw me off at first, but once you get into it, you start to understand it. I would recommend this to someone who wants a quick, cute and sexy read. I'm looking forward to reading more by Shanna.

Existence and more!

So I just finished reading Existence by Abbi Glines; and let me tell you it was amazing! I am one of those people who actually HATES reading, but when Ashley told me to read books that Abbi has written; her work has become the reason why I like to read again. Its become my escape from the real world. Everyone needs that. :) Seriously if you haven't started this serious yet, DO IT. Its well worth it. Abbi's work is some of the best I've read in a long time.

I sort of don't want to make this a review, because Ashley already has a really amazing place for that (y'all should check it out over at http://stepintofiction.blogspot.com/ its pretty much amazing). What I'm kinda doing here is telling you about all of the books I've read, am reading and such. Maybe I'll come up with something cool, discover some new authors and books to share along the way. :) (That is what I do get read in my crazy schedule called life! hehe)

Please, please let me know what you all would like to see from me! I know I'm terrible at posting and keeping up, but I shall try and work to get better at that!! You all should know that I am a huge fan fiction junkie, So maybe we can do something with every once in a while. ;) Now if you'll excuse me, there is a tub of Ben and Jerry's ice cream in my freezer and the rest of my current read Safe Haven by Shanna Germain calling my name, both to be finished!

Peace Out Girl Scout!

Update on My Writing Life from Samantha March

I am super happy to say that The Green Ticket is (finally) in the hands of my editor. Whew! It feels so strange not working on it, but while it is in the editing process I try to not touch the story, re-read it, make changes, etc. I just let my editor do her magic, then feel scared everyday at what her comments will be ;) I am excited to get it back, make any changes she has suggested, put some polish on, and then sometime soon start looking for some beta readers. Right now, I am working on developing my third novel. I’ve started to name characters (which is seriously so hard!) and start learning their personalities. One idea that I am going to put into play with this book is interviewing my characters. I’m going to develop a list of questions and answer them like my characters would. This will help give me a better idea of who they are. Has anyone tried this before?

Into the Shadows Book 3 Cover and Title Reveal!

This is it. The finale. The end. I'm happy to say I've already started the book (about 5,000 words in) and will spend the summer writing both this and Bloody Little Secrets Book 2 (look for that cover/title announcement later this summer!). It was amazing luck to find a model who had three different colors of hair, and many thanks to the wonderful Robin Ludwig for tying the series together visually.

Behold...AFTER DAWN!!!

June news from Berinn Rae

Welcome to summer! This month, I'm busy wrapping up edits on Stealing Fate (a novella on one of the Greek Fates), which comes out July 24, and Collision (book 1 in the Colliding Worlds trilogy), which comes out July 30 from Crimson Romance. After that, I'll be working on the next book in the Colliding Worlds trilogy (alien romance), tentatively called Implosion. I've put Rafe's story in the Guardians of the Seven Seals series on hold temporarily so I can first wrap up the trilogy this summer. Rest assured, Rafe will get his story!
In other news, I just committed to attending RT 2013 in Kansas City, MO (May 1-5, 2013). There, I'll be co-hosting a readers' "carnival" event with friends Beth Ciotta, Heather GrahamTraci Hall, Kathy LoveErin McCarthy, and Elle J Rossi. I can guarantee it's going to be a fun event for everyone who attends!

The Chosen Summer Shorts– #1 Emergence

http://www.denisegroverswank.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Emergence.jpg

Emergence, the first short story for The Chosen series is now available on Amazon for $0.99.  The good news is that newsletter subscribers get to read it on my website for free! The newsletters for June, July and August will include a link to that month’s story on my site, along with a password. The story is in a PDF file.

All of the stories are prequels to Chosen and the first one is Emma’s story.  It starts three years before Chosen, when Jake began to get visions and the Bad Men first showed up. I’ll be honest. I really, really love this story. I neglected my children and wrote it in less than twenty-four hours. It’s 10,000 words, forty-two pages long, so you know I spent most to that time with my butt firmly planted in a chair. But I couldn’t help it. Her story just rolled right out of of me. When I finished, I attached it to an an email and sent it to my crit partner Trisha Leigh. Trisha’s always been a Will fan, but she told me she LOVED it and said this story gave her an entirely new perspective on Emma.
